Power Soccer is the fastest growing sport for power wheelchair users. The sport was originally developed in France in the early 70’s and was introduced to the United States in the early 80’s. Since then many countries created their own version of the sport which led to an international meeting in Paris, France 2005. It was the vision of the six countries that attended to create an international organization and unify the rules for international competition. The international organization, "Federation International de Powerchair Football Association" was born. This development led to the formal organization of the United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA) in 2006.

The Inaugural Season of ASU Power Soccer is in the Books!

ASU Power Soccer

As many of you know, this year, ASU welcomed the exciting sport of power soccer to it's campus. After several years of discussions and searching, we were finally able to recruit enough athletes to field a full squad and become an official team of the United States Power Soccer Association. Our club was comprised of a great mix of veterans and newcomers to power soccer, and everyone on the team was eager to see how we stacked up against the creame of the USPSA crop.

Throughout the year, we practiced every week at the SRC at ASU in preparation of our league games and tournaments. As each practice came and went, we continued to develop our skills and chemistry with each other. Overall, the season was a great success. We finished the regular season with a 10-4 record. At the 2011 Premier Cup in Atlanta, GA, we finished in 7th place. It wasn't as high as we hoped, but we will continue to get better and come back even stronger in the 2012 season. For now, we will rest up and recharge so we can return to Tempe in the fall and look to build on our inaugural season.

Stay tuned for more updates on the 2011-2012 season in the coming months.

Thank you and Go Devils,
Gabe Trujillo, President
